Superintendent’s Message
Thank you for visiting the Rome City Schools website. It is
a pleasure to serve as the superintendent of Rome City Schools.
Rome City Schools is a very unique public school system. Our
teachers recognize and address the needs of individual learners
to maximize their full learning potential.
Student achievement is the highest of priorities for the Rome
City School System and our outstanding results on the state
and national level prove this to be true. East Central Elementary,
Elm Street Elementary, and West End Elementary have all been
recognized as a Georgia School of Excellence. East Central and
West End have earned this honor twice within the last ten years!
On the secondary level, both Rome Middle School and Rome High
School have also received the Georgia School of Excellence Award.
The Governor’s Office of Student Achievement has recently recognized
Rome Middle School with the Silver Award for academic improvement
and East Central Elementary with the Platinum Award for sustained
academic excellence. On the national level, Main Elementary
was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2006, and East Central
Elementary received the National Blue Ribbon recognition in
2008! We are very proud of these accomplishments.
Rome City Schools has a rich academic curriculum that offers
foreign language opportunities in French, Spanish, and German
beginning in the seventh grade. The Rome Middle School curriculum
also offers gifted and honors classes in mathematics and literature.
At Rome High School, students may choose from three different
endorsement programs; a two-year college-prep endorsement, a
four-year college-prep endorsement, and a college-prep advanced
endorsement with 15 advanced placement courses available for
college credit! In addition to outstanding academics, Rome Middle
School and Rome High School have exceptional, award winning
athletic and fine arts programs to further engage our students.
All of our schools are accredited by the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools and by the Georgia Accrediting Commission.
Rome City Schools consistently perform at or higher than the
state average on state mandated tests. Rome High School students
have scored above the national average on the Scholastic Aptitude
Test (SAT) for the past thirteen years. For 2010-2011 the national
average score for the SAT was 1500. In that same year, Rome
High School had 138 students take the SAT and their average
score was 1540! This is 40 points above the national average
and 109 points above Georgia’s average! Rome City Schools has
had the highest SAT average in 2007 and 2010 with an average
of 1621 and 1669, respectively! Rome High School has earned
“Best High Schools in America” recognition from U.S. News &
World Report three of the last five years. In 2012, the school
ranked 31st of Georgia’s 446 high schools as a “Silver Award”
winner. Rome City Schools is an excellent educational choice
for students and parents.
We invite you to join the outstanding programs of Rome City
Schools!
Sincerely,

Jeffrey B. Bearden
