Rome High School Student Dress Code

Dear Parents and Students,

Rome High School’s goal for student dress is to have students dress in a manner conducive to learning and to prepare our students to enter the world of work knowing how to dress for success.

Students make the choice of whether or not to adhere to the dress code. The Rome High School staff will enforce the student dress code procedure each day of school. The administration will reserve the right to determine the appropriateness of student attire. Please read the information in this letter carefully.

The Rome High Student Dress Code:

• Requires shorts, skirts, and dresses to be worn below the end of the person’s fingertips.
• Requires tops with straps to be at least two finger-widths wide.
• Prohibits any undergarments from showing – male or female.
• Prohibits the wearing of transparent see-through, bare midriff shirts/blouses, tank tops, muscle shirts, strapless, spaghetti straps, low-cut, or halter clothing.
• Prohibits the wearing of oversized clothing or excessively tight clothes.
• Prohibits hats, visors, sunglasses, sweatbands, bandannas, headscarves, combs, rollers, picks, etc. (these items not to be worn in the building at any time).
• Prohibits the wearing of clothing that may create racial disharmony.
• Prohibits pajamas, bedroom shoes, or other nightwear.
• Prohibits garments or jewelry that display or make reference to alcoholic beverages, tobacco, drugs, nudity, sex, or weapons.
• Prohibits spiked jewelry, medium to heavy, long chains or body piercing other than ears.
• Prohibits the wearing of any attire that is not conducive to the educational setting at Rome High School.

Students that have been sent to the office for dress code violations for the first and second time will have opportunities to change their clothing and/or call their parent for a change of clothing. If there is a third violation, the student will be suspended out of school for a day. Additional dress code violations will carry suspensions of three to ten days should the student continue to wear inappropriate clothing.

We are very exited about the new school year and all of the educational and extra-curricular opportunities this year. Please discuss appropriate dress with your child. Students are old enough to make the correct choices.
