All 7th and 8th graders are required to read at least one book over the summer. You have a choice of books on the suggested list (on the other side) and that is being sent home with 4th 9 weeks Progress Reports. If you do not like any of the suggested books, you may select another one to read. Your assignment is to create either a Power Point presentation or a set of index cards that tell 26 things, one for each letter of the alphabet, about your chosen book for summer reading. Projects will be due on Thursday, September 10, 2009. They will be presented in your Language Arts class and will be counted as a project/test grade for that class. You will be graded with the rubric on this page. Please note that particular language arts and reading standards are being assessed. You can choose the format – 3 x 5 OR 4 x 6 index cards OR Power Point with one slide per letter of the alphabet. Be creative! (If you choose to do the PPT presentation, you will need to print a copy of your show to turn in to your teacher.) You should include the letter of the alphabet and word for which it stands along with a short explanation (sentence or two). Illustrations/graphics will make your presentation much more interesting. Think about drawing or cutting pictures out of magazines, downloading clip art, etc. If you use index cards, you might consider gluing some objects to your cards to represent the letters of the alphabet. You will need to include a Title Card with the name of the book, the author’s name and your name and class period. An example of one letter card is below:
