About Us...
  • Location

West End Elementary School is located in Rome, Georgia. You’ll find our city in the northwestern region of Georgia, near the borders of Alabama and Tennessee. Located in the foothills of the Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountains, our community lies within a valley encircled by hills and crossed by three rivers, the Etowah, Oostanaula and Coosa, which meander their way into the heart of the city. West End is located in what our own town refers to as "West Rome". We are located farther west in the city than any other school in the Rome City School System.

  • Mission Statement

The mission of West End Elementary and Rome City Schools is that all children will graduate from high school ready for college or work.

We also believe that the learning process includes continuous planning by administrators, teachers, community, and parents to meet the needs of all children.

  • Facilities

West End has approximately 758 students within grades Kindergarten through sixth grade. We have a unique arrangement of rooms with four classrooms opening out into a large common lobby in grades K - 3. Grades 4 - 6 rotate teachers and rooms for classes in preparation for middle school.

Our multi-purpose gymnasium serves as a physical education center, a school-wide program arena, and a school assembly area.

Each classroom at West End has at least 2 computers with Internet access along with four fully functional computer labs, all of which are fully connected with high-speed internet access.

We have a 6th grade beginner band that has approximately 75 members.

West End’s media center features automated systems with interactive encyclopedia reference tools and computers for student use.

West End is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and we were also accredited with QUALITY by The Georgia Accrediting Commission, Inc. and we have been named a recipient of the Georgia School of Excellence Award.

We have approximatley 75 faculty and staff members. Our student teacher ratio is approximately 17:1 in grades K - 3 and 25:1 in grades 4 - 6.

  • Academics

West End Elementary School received the 1998 - 1999 and the 2006 - 2007 Georgia School of Excellence Award and we were named as a "Pay for Performance" recipient for three consecutive years!   We were ranked #1 in Floyd County and Rome City Elementary Schools and #3 in all of Northwest Georgia Elementary Schools by the State of Georgia during the 2005 - 2006 school year.

Our scores rank above state and national averages consistently on CRCT in Georgia.

  • Classroom Environment

All of our classrooms incorporate computer technology and all have internet access. All classes utilize small group interaction, cooperative learning and hands-on manipulatives. Test taking skills are emphasized within our regular educational teachings throughout the year, along with an emphasis on daily writing and math skills.

  • Parent Involvement

West End is fortunate to have a very active and willing parent body of workers who assist teachers throughout the year in and out of the classroom.

The West End PTO is the supportive parent organization for our school. With exceptional membership, the PTO actively takes on the role and responsibility through work and financing of most major projects requested by administrators and teachers throughout our school. They publish our monthly newsletter, provide monthly birthday celebrations, promote grandparent luncheons, sponsor our fall festival and promote teacher appreciation.

Last year parents at West End put in 5000+ hours of volunteer work at our school.

  • Community Support

West End has the support of numerous Partners-in-Education that help in our school with tutoring, mentoring and providing student recognition awards.
