English Language Arts / Enrichment - ROME HIGH SCHOOL

I am a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a graduate of Duquesne University and Duquesne Paralegal Institute. For many years, I enjoyed working as a real estate paralegal (drafting and negotiating contracts), but I also found myself wanting to teach, which yearning eventually came to fruition. For the period of 2014-2017, I was employed as a paraprofessional at Rome Middle School. During this time, I immensely enjoyed working with students and mustered the courage to pursue my teacher certification. In 2018, this aspiration was fulfilled, and I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching (with concentrations in Reading and Special Education) from the University of West Georgia. With regard to education, I wish to impart knowledge and learning, so students feel empowered and equipped to self-advocate for their futures, as well as contribute to the betterment of this world. My hobbies include reading, baking, and traveling while spending time with my husband, our daughter, three (3) dogs and a cat. My general philosophy: Life is hard. Let us do our best to make the journey easier and kinder for others along the way. I can be reached at lbeck@rcs.rome.ga.us.

    Science - ROME HIGH SCHOOL

I realized that I wanted to pursue teaching as a career when I was a junior at Adairsville High School. Because I knew so many incredible teachers who had graduated from Berry College, I was positive I would love Berry. As it turns out, I was right. Now, why I decided to major in physics when I had only taken a freshman physical science course in high school, I'll never know. However, I'm so glad I did! Physics absolutely amazed me, and I was hooked. I obtained my bachelor's with a physics major and secondary education minor four years later. My high school sweetheart, Jason, and I got married a month after graduation. After one year of teaching at North Murray High School in Chatsworth and a long commute, I applied for a position at Rome High and have worked here ever since. Currently, I am attending Western Governors University and plan to graduate with a master's in secondary mathematics education in the spring of 2019. I cannot think of a better job than my current one-- teaching honors physics and astronomy at Rome High School. The school, the students, and the community are phenomenal. Go Wolves!

    Ms. Lori Davis

    Science - ROME HIGH SCHOOL

I developed a love for biology as a child. My passion continued throughout high school and college. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Shorter College. Afterward, I worked as a Lab Analyst for six years in a microbiology and gas chromatography lab. It is within that time, that I gained extensive laboratory and analysis skills. Although I had a wonderful job as a lab analyst, I longed to do something where I could make a difference in the lives of our youth. Teaching had always been in the back of my mind. After six years, I decided to pursue an education degree. I followed my heart and went to the University of West Georgia where I received my teaching certification and student taught biology. I continued my education at Walden University where I received a Master’s Degree in Science Education. I credit my master’s degree for inspiring me to be the teacher I am today. It focused on inquiry and the importance of teaching science for true and lasting understanding. Fortunately, biology is a subject that is relevant and naturally lends itself to scientific inquiry. It promotes learning by “doing.” You will find my students up and “doing” biology every day. It encompasses many wonderful, interesting sciences, such as genetics, biochemistry, cell processes, classification, evolution, and ecology. I believe that teaching is a calling in my life. Teaching and interacting with teenagers comes naturally to me. Designing investigations that engage students EVERY day is my passion. Teaching science at its best is when students design investigations, gather evidence and draw conclusions on their own. My ultimate desire is for my students to go one step further and apply what they learn to real-world problems. I believe that giving student autonomy in learning helps them take ownership and experience success.

Social Studies - ROME HIGH SCHOOL

Six years ago, I was 27, and I had finally started my life. Teaching is a calling, not a job. I was always passionate about teaching social studies, but I never knew how to be happy in the other professions I had previously held. Once I started teaching, I never wanted to do anything else. The intrinsic value of seeing a student finally understand and master a new concept was indescribable. I completed my undergrad degree at the University of Georgia in 2009. I am currently due to finish graduate school at Valdosta State in the spring. I coach cross country and soccer because they are both hobbies and passions of mine. Teaching has given me the opportunity to change lives for the better. Never hesitate to drop by my classroom if you ever need someone to chat with. Communication is the key! Not just for our students, but for our faculty as well.

When I am not working, I love spending time with my family that includes 2 young children, reading and spending time outside.

My passion for social studies began when I moved to Georgia, right before the 2004 election, and I've not slowed down since! While at Model High school, I honed my areas of interest to our country's own history and that of Europe. This resulted in my pursuit of a history major while attending Centre College in Danville, KY, at which I got to work behind the scenes on the 2012 Vice Presidential Debate!! When I graduated in 2013 with my Bachelor's degree, I carried two minors (secondary education and English) along with it. While in both high school and college, I played softball and enjoyed my time in the band and several choral groups- yes, I like to stay busy! Aside from my academic and extracurricular activities, I'm also an avid reader and I enjoy playing any game that makes my son laugh! I've spent the last several years teaching pre-k at the Berry College Child Development Center, and I'm more than thrilled to join the Rome family. Most of all, I'm a people person- I love meeting people and making connections, especially when they result in learning! So, please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions. Ms. Stephanie Masters

After spending all my school-age years in LaGrange, Georgia, I attended LaGrange College to play soccer and pursue a degree in biology. Little did I know that a short mission trip to El Salvador would change my perspective and my passions, leading to my Master’s degree in teaching and a desire to build relationships while mentoring teenagers. I spent 5 years teaching science and coaching soccer in a couple of small private schools before coming to Rome High School in 2017. My faith is really important to me, and it drives my passion for teaching. Other passions of mine include supporting my husband Nate, who coaches football at Berry College, spending time with my one-year-old son Myles, cooking, running, and traveling. I look forward to another awesome year at RHS!

    Ms. Andrea McKenzie

Andrea I teach AP Biology and CPA/Honors Anatomy here at Rome High School. This is my 21st year of teaching. Before Rome High, I taught in Cobb County at Wheeler High School and Sprayberry High School. I grew up in Cobb County, attending Wheeler High School. I went to The University of North Georgia and Kennesaw State University for my undergraduate degree in Secondary Science Education with a concentration in Biology. I also attended KSU for my Master's degree in Adolescent Education with a concentration in Science. I've known that I wanted to be a science teacher since my high school biology class. More than teaching science, I've always known I wanted to help people. What a great profession I am in: I get to combine my two passions, helping others and science. My husband teaches at Rome Middle School. We have a 3 1/2-year-old son named Sam, who is the best part of every day.

AP German, AP European History - Foreign Language - ROME HIGH SCHOOL

It was in Mr. Supon's classroom at Cedartown High School when I discovered I loved learning a foreign language. I knew when I looked at the posters of Germany on the wall, that I would live there one day. After graduating from Auburn University with a major in History and minors in German and Political Science, I moved to Germany to live and work there for over a year. Upon returning, I enrolled in a Masters of Education program so that I could teach and share my experiences with my students, in hopes that they, too, would want to go there someday. I began teaching at Rome High School in the Fall of 2001. During this time, I married and had two children, earned an Educational Specialist degree, and served on the school board in my hometown of Cedartown, GA. Outside of the education field, I love to run (I ran my first 15k this past February), read, travel (I'm taking a group of 25 to Europe this Summer), and watching foreign language films and documentaries. I believe the world is the greatest teacher, and I hope to inspire all my students to go out there and explore! Please reach out to me if you have any questions toneal@rcs.rome.ga.us

AP Spanish - Foreign Language - ROME HIGH SCHOOL

Parker I have been teaching for more than twenty years, both here in the United States as well as in Costa Rica and I have a Master’s degree in Education from Berry College. For the past six years, I have been fortunate enough to have been selected as an Advanced Placement Spanish Language Reader, where I travel to Ohio to grade AP tests. As a professional, I want my students not only to learn the grammatical structure of the sentences and parts of speech, I want them to see the importance of being bilingual and the opportunities that speaking another language will provide for them. It is important to me that my students feel confident in the classroom and I try to challenge them to do their best. Their accomplishments and interest to continue their studies up to the AP Spanish level, majoring or minoring in Spanish and beyond, inspires me to continue doing my job as an instructor. My students challenge me and encourage me to be a better educator each day.

    Ms. Claire Pierce

English Language Arts - ROME HIGH SCHOOL

I graduated from Berry College in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in secondary education, and I have been teaching for six years. I teach because I had some great literature teachers along the way who led me to fall in love with reading and writing in high school, and I found a deep love of teaching throughout my student teaching experiences in college. During my time at Berry College, I also worked with WinShape Camps in the summers. Both Berry and WinShape emphasize a "head, heart, and hands" approach to teaching, which has made its way into my classroom through our hands-on PBL projects, my open door policy, and my high expectations for my students. In the summers, I lead international trips for Rome High School students with EF Tours, which provide students with opportunities for amazing adventures as well as emphasize a discovery-style approach to learning. So far, we have traveled to Belize and Greece, and I am taking a group to Costa Rica in the summer of 2019. In addition to teaching and traveling, I love running and hiking with my dog, cooking, reading, and just about anything involving water!
