Wolfhead I am a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a graduate of Duquesne University and Duquesne Paralegal Institute. For many years, I enjoyed working as a real estate paralegal (drafting and negotiating contracts), but I also found myself wanting to teach, which yearning eventually came to fruition. For the period of 2014-2017, I was employed as a paraprofessional at Rome Middle School. During this time, I immensely enjoyed working with students and mustered the courage to pursue my teacher certification. In 2018, this aspiration was fulfilled, and I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching (with concentrations in Reading and Special Education) from the University of West Georgia. With regard to education, I wish to impart knowledge and learning, so students feel empowered and equipped to self-advocate for their futures, as well as contribute to the betterment of this world. My hobbies include reading, baking, and traveling while spending time with my husband, our daughter, three (3) dogs and a cat. My general philosophy: Life is hard. Let us do our best to make the journey easier and kinder for others along the way. I can be reached at lbeck@rcs.rome.ga.us.

English Language arts - ROME HIGH SCHOOL

Wolfhead I grew up in a family that loved books and learning so it was natural for me to combine these two loves into teaching English. I graduated from Liberty University in 1997 with a Bachelor's Degree in English and a minor in Business. While in college I was involved in both marching and concert band. After college, I worked five years outside of education before working at Adairsville High School for thirteen years. I took off three years to stay home with my children and then returned to teaching. I began at Rome High School last year, 2017-18 and look forward to my second year as a Wolf. Should you have any questions, I can be reached at hbernstein@rcs.rome.ga.us.

I grew up in Rome and graduated from East Rome High School. I graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and worked as a computer programmer for a number of years. I have always loved school, libraries, and reading, so when it was time for a change of career, school media specialist was an obvious choice. I earned my master's degree in media from the University of West Georgia and began my career at Southeast Elementary. I also worked at West Central Elementary before coming to Rome High ten years ago. This is my 25th year with RCS. Outside of work I enjoy reading, traveling with my husband, visiting my grandson, walking my dog, and volunteering at my church.

I developed a love for biology as a child. My passion continued throughout high school and college. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Shorter College. Afterward, I worked as a Lab Analyst for six years in a microbiology and gas chromatography lab. It is within that time, that I gained extensive laboratory and analysis skills. Although I had a wonderful job as a lab analyst, I longed to do something where I could make a difference in the lives of our youth. Teaching had always been in the back of my mind. After six years, I decided to pursue an education degree. I followed my heart and went to the University of West Georgia where I received my teaching certification and student taught biology. I continued my education at Walden University where I received a Master’s Degree in Science Education. I credit my master’s degree for inspiring me to be the teacher I am today. It focused on inquiry and the importance of teaching science for true and lasting understanding. Fortunately, biology is a subject that is relevant and naturally lends itself to scientific inquiry. It promotes learning by “doing.” You will find my students up and “doing” biology every day. It encompasses many wonderful, interesting sciences, such as genetics, biochemistry, cell processes, classification, evolution, and ecology. I believe that teaching is a calling in my life. Teaching and interacting with teenagers comes natural to me. Designing investigations that engage students EVERY day is my passion. Teaching science at its best is when students design investigations, gather evidence, and draw conclusions on their own. My ultimate desire is for my students to go one step further and apply what they learn to real-world problems. I believe that giving student autonomy in learning helps them take ownership and experience success.

When I was in 6th grade, my career day choices were a nurse or a teacher. I can happily say that I have worked in the medical field and now I am teaching Healthcare Science at Rome High School. Previously I worked in the forklift industry as an office manager for 24 years. When my company closed, I attended Georgia Northwestern Technical College where in 2010 where I received my Associate Degree in Medical Office Management and a Diploma in Medical Assisting. I went on to obtain my Certification as a Medical Assistant, which I still hold today. In 2010 I was given the opportunity to be a Certified Medical Assistant in Harbin Orthopaedics where I remained until taking the Healthcare Science Teacher position at RHS in 2015. I was also an adjunct instructor at GNTC and taught Medical Terminology and Introduction to Healthcare from 2014 to 2018. In June of 2017, I obtained my teaching certification thru Georgia TAPP and this June received my professional teaching certificate. My hobbies are scrapbooking and I am a member of the Crafty Ladies that meet once a month where we create "beautiful" crafting items. I am a firm believer in treating students fairly and talking to them, not at them. I love my students and this year RHS will graduate my very first set of students I have had my entire time at RHS. I am excited and sad all at the same time. I have built strong relationships with my students and hope in some way, I have helped them on the road to reaching their career goals. If you need me, I am always willing to help all you have to do is ask. My email is mgreen@rcs.rome.ga.us.

My background is in engineering with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee and a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech with an emphasis in Systems Theory and Real Analysis. Prior to teaching, I worked at the Laboratory for Information Technologies as a Software Developer/Research Assistant. While working and going to school I had the opportunity to lecture undergraduate engineering courses and lead after-school science clubs for middle school students. Through these activities I developed a passion for teaching and mentoring students, culminating in a M.A.T in Secondary Mathematics Education from Kennesaw State University. I have taught math and I now teach the Engineering & Technology pathway at Rome High School. When I am not working with my students, I am gaming, gardening, woodworking, camping, and tinkering with electronics with the help of my two children Joey and Becca. I believe that curiosity and grit are the most important skills that a student (or any life-long learner) can develop.

    Mr. Joseph Hastings

Social Studies - ROME HIGH SCHOOL

    Hastings

Six years ago, I was 27, and I had finally started my life. Teaching is a calling, not a job. I was always passionate about teaching social studies, but I never knew how to be happy in the other professions I had previously held. Once I started teaching, I never wanted to do anything else. The intrinsic value of seeing a student finally understand and master a new concept was indescribable. I completed my undergrad degree at the University of Georgia in 2009. I am currently due to finish graduate school at Valdosta State in the spring. I coach cross country and soccer because they are both hobbies and passions of mine. Teaching has given me the opportunity to change lives for the better. Never hesitate to drop by my classroom if you ever need someone to chat with. Communication is the key! Not just for our students, but for our faculty as well.

My parents gave me a handheld microscope when I was a young child and I remember discovering that the world was far more detailed than I had ever imagined. This gift was the beginning of my love of science that culminated in earning a BS in Biology and pursuing a teaching career. After 16 years of teaching, I love that I get to work in a field that blends my love of people and the natural world. When I am not working, I love spending time with my family that includes 2 young children, reading and spending time outside.

My passion for social studies began when I moved to Georgia, right before the 2004 election, and I've not slowed down since! While at Model High school, I honed my areas of interest to our country's own history and that of Europe. This resulted in my pursuit of a history major while attending Centre College in Danville, KY, at which I got to work behind the scenes on the 2012 Vice Presidential Debate!! When I graduated in 2013 with my Bachelor's degree, I carried two minors (secondary education and English) along with it. While in both high school and college, I played softball and enjoyed my time in the band and several choral groups- yes, I like to stay busy! Aside from my academic and extracurricular activities, I'm also an avid reader and I enjoy playing any game that makes my son laugh! I've spent the last several years teaching pre-k at the Berry College Child Development Center, and I'm more than thrilled to join the Rome family. Most of all, I'm a people person- I love meeting people and making connections, especially when they result in learning! So, please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions. Teaching is my gift from God and, next to God and family, the most important thing in my life. I love my students and enjoy helping them prepare for the rest of their lives. In my spare time, I am a professional hip hop dancer. I have been dancing for the ATL Classix Crew for 8 years. I collect dolls, Santas, nativities, teddy bears, nutcrackers, and funny sweaters.

I knew I wanted to work in education when I was a student at Newnan High School. I am a SPED ELA inclusion teacher here at Rome high in the freshman academy. I was fortunate enough to attend Auburn University obtaining my Bachelor's Degree in Criminology. I was blessed to be able to play football for Auburn University from 2006-2010 and help my team become Cotton bowl champions(2006), Chick-fil-a champions(2007, and Outback bowl champions (2010). I obtained my master's degree in special education from Grand Canyon University. I also coach Varsity Running-backs here at Rome High and Varsity Baseball as well. I have other hobbies that include working out, watching football, Braves baseball, and reading. I believe in a saying that Coach Trooper Taylor used to always tell us in the meeting rooms at Auburn and that is "every day is an interview" I believe in that wholeheartedly because you never know who is watching each and every day.

At the time, I was also on the team building the French curriculum for the Louisiana Virtual School, a pioneer online teacher, and on the PRAXIS exam committee for French. After going through several hurricanes, my family moved to Rome, Georgia, in 2006, where I taught at Rome Middle. I transferred to Rome High in 2014, where I have been teaching French 1, 2, 3, 4, and AP. In my private life, I enjoy running on the Berry College forest trails and riding my bicycle all over the Northwestern Georgia back roads. After spending all my school-age years in LaGrange, Georgia, I attended LaGrange College to play soccer and pursue a degree in biology. Little did I know that a short mission trip to El Salvador would change my perspective and my passions, leading to my Master’s degree in teaching and a desire to build relationships while mentoring teenagers. I spent 5 years teaching science and coaching soccer in a couple of small private schools before coming to Rome High School in 2017. My faith is really important to me, and it drives my passion for teaching. Other passions of mine include supporting my husband Nate, who coaches football at Berry College, spending time with my one-year-old son Myles, cooking, running, and traveling. Before Rome High, I taught in Cobb County at Wheeler High School and Sprayberry High School. I grew up in Cobb County, attending Wheeler High School. I went to The University of North Georgia and Kennesaw State University for my undergraduate degree in Secondary Science Education with a concentration in Biology. I also attended KSU for my Master's degree in Adolescent Education with a concentration in Science. I've known that I wanted to be a science teacher since my high school biology class. More than teaching science, I've always known I wanted to help people. What a great profession I am in: I get to combine my two passions, helping others and science. My husband teaches at Rome Middle School. We have a 3 1/2-year-old son named Sam, who is the best part of every day.

Oneal It was in Mr. Supon's classroom at Cedartown High School when I discovered I loved learning a foreign language. I knew when I looked at the posters of Germany on the wall, that I would live there one day. After graduating from Auburn University with a major in History and minors in German and Political Science, I moved to Germany to live and work there for over a year. Upon returning, I enrolled in a Masters of Education program so that I could teach and share my experiences with my students, in hopes that they, too, would want to go there someday. I began teaching at Rome High School in the Fall of 2001. During this time, I married and had two children, earned an Educational Specialist degree, and served on the school board in my hometown of Cedartown, GA. Outside of the education field, I love to run (I ran my first 15k this past February), read, travel (I'm taking a group of 25 to Europe this Summer), and watching foreign language films and documentaries. I believe the world is the greatest teacher, and I hope to inspire all my students to go out there and explore! For the past six years, I have been fortunate enough to have been selected as an Advanced Placement Spanish Language Reader, where I travel to Ohio to grade AP tests. As a professional, I want my students not only to learn the grammatical structure of the sentences and parts of speech, I want them to see the importance of being bilingual and the opportunities that speaking another language will provide for them. It is important to me that my students feel confident in the classroom and I try to challenge them to do their best. Their accomplishments and interest to continue their studies up to the AP Spanish level, majoring or minoring in Spanish and beyond, inspires me to continue doing my job as an instructor. My students challenge me and encourage me to be a better educator each day.

I graduated from Berry College in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in secondary education, and I have been teaching for six years. I teach because I had some great literature teachers along the way who led me to fall in love with reading and writing in high school, and I found a deep love of teaching throughout my student teaching experiences in college. During my time at Berry College, I also worked with WinShape Camps in the summers. Both Berry and WinShape emphasize a "head, heart, and hands" approach to teaching, which has made its way into my classroom through our hands-on PBL projects, my open door policy, and my high expectations for my students. In the summers, I lead international trips for Rome High School students with EF Tours, which provide students with opportunities for amazing adventures as well as emphasize a discovery-style approach to learning. So far, we have traveled to Belize and Greece, and I am taking a group to Costa Rica in the summer of 2019. In addition to teaching and traveling, I love running and hiking with my dog, cooking, reading, and just about anything involving water! Wolfhead

I am starting my 18th year of teaching. I have spent the past 17 years in Carroll County, teaching Social Studies and, for a few years, Business Ed. and Computer Science to middle school. I love technology and finding new ways to integrate technology into my classroom and my life. I have attended the University of West Georgia for my Bachelor's Degree in History and Secondary Education. I completed my higher degrees in Administration, Instructional Technology, and finally, my Ed.D in Curriculum Studies, from Georgia Southern. I love being a student as much as I love being a teacher! I was raised in Hollywood, Florida and moved to the West Georgia area as an adult. I have 3 children, 2 sons, ages 23, and 26, and a 15-year-old daughter. We love to visit Disney World and the beach. I "discovered" Rome when my son attended Berry College, where he earned his degree in Animal Science and played football- go Vikings!
