Hello! My name is Mrs. Sargent and I am thrilled to have your child in our room! I attended Elm Street Elementary when I was a child and am so happy to be back so many years later! I have been married for 26 years and have two children, Trey...18 and Gracie...14. I attend Riverside Baptist Church in Rome and in my "spare time" I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, listening to music, cooking, and painting. Thank you for allowing us to educate your children!
Mrs. Gabey is our paraeducator in pre-kindergarten. She previously served as a Special Education Paraprofessional in Floyd County and then worked as a Substitute Teacher for Rome City Schools. She has been married for 28 years, has three daughters and three grandchildren. She loves animals and has four rescue dogs. She attends St. Mary's Church in Rome and enjoys reading, cooking and learning. working with children is her passion and she looks forward to a long career with Rome City Schools!
In pre-k our goal is to provide meaningful, integrated experiences that nurture a child’s natural curiosity necessary for life-long learning.
How We Learn
During the course of the year, we will integrate skills through themes of study. Thematic units are derived from the student’s interest and from our curriculum, "Frog Street". The units address the skills and knowledge that are assessed by the pre-kindergarten objectives checklist. This method ensures that the child has an authentic purpose and excitement for learning. We will also have lessons and fun based on S(cience) T(echnology) E(ngineering) A(rts) M(ath)!
The children will be assessed by checklists, teacher observations, anecdotal records, photos, work samples and conferences. There will be two opportunities during the year for conferences to discuss your child’s progress. If you feel that you need a conference at any other time during the year, please feel free to contact me at 706-232-5313 and schedule one.
