National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)

NAEP

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is a congressionally mandated project administered by the National Center for Education Statistics within the U.S. Department of Education and the Institute of Education Sciences.  Results from this assessment are used to create “The Nation’s Report Card,” which reflects information on what American students know and can do.  Assessment is in the content areas of civics, economics, geography, mathematics, music and visual arts, reading, science, technology and engineering, literacy, U.S. history, and writing. The NAEP is administered to students in grades 4, 8, and 12 in order to evaluate their knowledge of national standards. This evaluation is not necessarily conducted annually; school systems are asked to participate by the Georgia Department of Education.

Rome City Schools administers the NAEP Assessments to students in grades 4, 8, and 12.  The assessment seeks to evaluate what students know and are able to do in various content areas.  If Rome City Schools is asked to give the assessment, it is administered in the spring.
