Math Leader Schools

Rome City Schools continues to move the needle when it comes to student achievement, as three schools have been recognized by the Georgia Department of Education as Math Leader Schools for their exceptional success in mathematics.

Rome Middle School, Anna K. Davie Elementary, and Elm Street Elementary have all received the honor. All three schools demonstrated exceptional achievement or growth in mathematics during the 2024-2025 school year.

Rome Middle School was named a High School Achievement School because 90 percent or more of its eighth graders taking Algebra scored Proficient or Above. This is the second consecutive year that Rome Middle has earned this distinction.

“Cindy Ray is an exceptional mathematics teacher who consistently demonstrates excellence in teaching and a deep commitment to her students’ success. Once again, her hard work and dedication have paid off. She and her students have achieved outstanding results. Being recognized as a Math Leader School by the Department of Education and the State Superintendent is a tremendous honor for Rome Middle School and a testament to the excellence of our math program,” Rome Middle Principal Christian A. Barnes says.

Anna K. Davie and Elm Street were both honored as Fifth Grade Gateway Math Schools. Both schools earned this award because a high percentage of fifth-grade students scored Proficient or Above in mathematics. This is the first Math School award for both schools.

“Mrs. Kiara McConnell is a rockstar teacher who always goes the extra mile for her students. We’re so proud of her and excited that she is being recognized for all of her hard work in the classroom,” Anna K. Davie Principal Brant Amerman says.

"We are incredibly proud to be recognized as a math leader school for the exceptional achievement in fifth-grade math. The commitment and hard work of our students resulted in a remarkable 16 percent increase in the percentage of proficient and distinguished learners this year. This is a testament to the students' dedication, the leadership of all our math teachers — specifically 5th Grade Teacher Mrs. Jade Black and Math Coach Mrs. Charissa Ondovic — and the power of having high expectations for student learning,” Elm Street Principal Lisa Strack says

A total of 479 schools met the qualifications for recognition as 2024-2025 Math Leaders.
