Board Poliocy changes

The Rome City Schools Board of Education approved a series of policy revisions during its June meeting, updating district policies to reflect current laws, district practices, organizational changes, and recommendations from the Georgia School Boards Association.

The revisions impact policies related to personnel, student services, instructional materials, purchasing procedures, facility use, wellness, athletics, graduation requirements, medication administration, parental involvement, and board governance.

Several updates were necessary following the transition of sixth-grade students to Rome Middle School to ensure that district policies accurately reflect the current grade configuration. Other revisions updated terminology, corrected outdated references, aligned policies with current state requirements, and clarified district procedures.

Superintendent Dr. Eric L. Holland said regularly reviewing district policies helps ensure Rome City Schools continues to operate efficiently while remaining aligned with state requirements and local needs.

"Board policies serve as the framework that guides our work across the district," Holland said. "These updates ensure our policies remain current, support our students and staff, and reflect the practices and expectations necessary to operate a high-performing school district."

The policy revisions were reviewed by the district's Policy Review Committee before being presented to the Board for consideration.  The Board approved the revisions on first reading at its June meeting.
