More than 500 Rome High School students reached an impressive academic benchmark during the 2025-2026 school year, maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher and earning academic honors from RHS.
Rome High celebrated those accomplishments Tuesday night during its third annual Academic Letters Ceremony in the Performing Arts Center, where sophomores, juniors, and seniors in attendance were honored for their success in the classroom.
Rome High School Principal Dr. Christy Epps welcomed students and families before emphasizing just how many RHS students reached the academic benchmark during the previous school year.
“Tonight, we have many things happening at Rome High School. We have a lot of students who have joined us tonight, but I want you to know that out of last school year, there were more than 500 students who qualified for this honor,” Dr. Epps said.
Dr. Epps paused for a moment to let the number sink in.
“Let me say that again. It was more than 500 students,” Dr. Epps said. “So we are really proud of our students and all of the accomplishments that they achieved last year.”
Students reaching the 3.5 GPA mark for the first time received an academic letter, while upperclassmen who had previously earned the honor received a pin to add to their letter.
“When more than 500 of our students earn a 3.5 GPA or higher, that says a lot about the work taking place in our classrooms,” Rome City Schools Superintendent Dr. Eric L. Holland said. “These students have challenged themselves academically and put in the work to succeed. We talk about Moving the Needle across Rome City Schools, and this is a great example of what that looks like. I am proud of our students, our teachers, and the families who support them every day.”
The annual ceremony gives Rome High an opportunity to celebrate the hard work students put into their academics and the high standards they maintain in the classroom. With more than 500 students reaching the 3.5 GPA benchmark, their success also provides another example of how students continue to Move the Needle at Rome City Schools.
“Rome High School is committed to recognizing our students for their performance in academics, athletics, and the arts,” Dr. Epps said. “We are so proud to be able to recognize our students for their outstanding academic performance in our third Academic Letter Ceremony.”
Before turning the spotlight back to the students, Dr. Epps thanked the family members and friends who helped them reach the milestone.
“Before we recognize our students, I would like to take a moment to recognize their parents, grandparents, guardians, aunts, uncles, and extended family and friends who have provided the support, the encouragement, and the love to these students to make all of this success possible,” Dr. Epps said.
Students in attendance then crossed the stage to receive their academic letters or pins, celebrating an accomplishment that required sustained success throughout the 2025-2026 school year.
