AKD with Chick-fil-a Cow

On St. Patrick's Day, students at Anna K. Davie Elementary School welcomed a special visitor in black and white, and of course green.

None other than the famed Chick-Fil-A Cow paid a visit, sporting his glittering green hat and bow tie.

Excitement about the guest in the building spread through the hallways into the lunchroom, and even to the adults in the building, as high fives were in order and pictures were taken.

Valerie Boyd, PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) president and parent liaison for AKD, explained that the PTO is currently coordinating a fundraiser involving the sale of Chick-Fil-A cookies. The delicious chocolate chip cookies are being sold by AKD students and faculty for two dollars.

Boyd explained that the fundraiser is for AKD’s goal of a new playground. She said that the class that sells the most cookies will get to have their very own Chick-Fil-A nugget party.

"I brought the Cow in to get the kids excited and show them the fun things in store and also to boost the sales of the cookies,” Boyd explained.

Students' smiles stretched across their faces as they started to chant "we want chicken!"

Boyd said that there are a couple of classes that are neck and neck and enjoying a bit of friendly competition.

She said that cookie sales will end on Friday March 25, and the winning nugget party will commence on Thursday March 31.

"I am very proud of the PTO and all the work that they're doing,” Principal Felisha Jackson smiled. “They have several fundraisers that they're working on. Miss Boyd and her team have been doing a great job coordinating these events.”

Boyd said that the PTO is also coordinating a Spring Dance for Pre-K through fifth grade during the week of spring break that will also serve as a fundraiser for AKD’s goal of getting a new playground.

Jackson explained that the PTO at AKD is only two years old at this point.

"So, we're trying to build up that PTO and get more apparent involvement in the school system. I'm excited to have a PTO that is going to be growing in the next couple years."
