Rome City's elementary schools participated in Berry Elementary's Science Fair on Wednesday, April 26th. Elm, Main, and West End all sent fourth graders to present their projects to judges. Anna K. Davie and West Central sent fifth graders to present and compete against other local schools. One of Anna K. Davie's groups presented their project entitled "What You Can't See" and won 2nd place. The students worked on their Science project in Ms. Charnita McIntosh's STEM class. The girls hypothesized that their teacher's cell phone would be one of the germiest items in their classroom. They tested several surfaces and concluded that it was not the germiest place in their classroom, but their window sill contained more germs than other tested surfaces. The girls stated that they chose this project to show to their classmates that it's important to wipe down surfaces because germs are in unsuspecting places. This was the first year that Anna K. Davie participated in Berry's Science Fair and their STEM teacher, Ms. McIntosh, could not be prouder of her students. "They worked hard to prove their hypothesis and were very surprised by the results, which we all know can happen with hypotheses. The girls were able to talk in detail about their experiment to the judges and learned a lot throughout this process. I'm excited that they had this opportunity to represent Anna K. Davie. They are looking forward to coming back to compete again next year, and they are truly looking forward to attending college after being on Berry's beautiful campus." The winning students were Aliyah Lo, Taylor Austin, Dekira Gordon, and Etana Moten (not pictured). One of West Central's groups presented their project entitled "Magnets" and tied for 3rd place with one of Berry Elementary's 5th grade groups. The students worked on their Science project in Mrs. Natalie Hall's STEM class; they had to prove if increasing the number of magnets affected its magnetic field. This was the first year that West Central participated in Berry's Science Fair. Mrs. Natalie Hall stated "Our 4th and 5th grade Science fair teams did a great job representing their classes and demonstrating how they were able to follow the scientific method during their experiment to deepen their understanding of grade level science standards. They worked hard, practiced their presentations ahead of time, and represented Rome City Schools very well. We are very proud of all of them." The winning students were: Telia Miliner, Zayden Moore, Christian Holiday, Alejandro Lopez, and Kamori Williamson.

What a fun day! Our Rome City Schools Pre-K and kindergarten readers who turned in 80-100 reading logs enjoyed a wonderful sunny day at a petting zoo event at Rome High School with several stations that included, learning about the animals and their habitats, planting and growing flowers, P.A.W.S, fun and educational games, and a snack break with cookies! A special shout out to Mrs. Reid, Mrs. Dunaway, Mrs. Price, the CCA Department and students and our RCS cheerleaders and football captains for making this possible!

A Rome Braves Ball game, hot dogs, popcorn, ice cream, music, Roxie the mascot and great weather, it can't get any better than that for our RCS Students! Rome City Schools had 965 readers attend a Rome Braves field trip for reaching their fourth reading incentive goal of the year! Mrs. Reid, coordinator of the incentive program, organized the event for students in grades 1-6 with the goal being to have read 80-100 books or nights read to attend. Our goal is to keep this reading habit continuing through the summer and into the next school year. Our librarians, teachers, parents and principals play a huge role in motivating our readers. RCS elementary schools will continue to make reading a focal point for our 2023-24 school year. Thank you, students and parents, for participating in our reading incentive program and making reading a top priority!
